Any mermaid worth her salt has to hook Santa up with these cookies!
Or, if you are hosting a sea-themed or a mermaid party, or if you just like sea things no matter what the occasion, these sand dollar cookies are a must!
It's December, and I can not fight the irresistible urge to look up recipes and make a huge mess. These were first on my list.
They were easy to make and came out so cute!! I can't even stand it.
These seashell cookies can be made with any snickerdoodle recipe (or possibly any cookie recipe ever)
I used a conglomerate of 3 or 4 different recipes with my own I-only-had-this-in-the-cupboard twist... and there are no measuring cups or spoons my little rental apartment! So, I will not waste your ingredients with a wishy-washy recipe, just google one :)
The last step is the most important one and the key here is slivered almonds (which were magically in the cupboard)
Once you have made your snickerdoodle cookies, you will roll them into balls, roll them in cinnamon and sugar (I used that chunky brown sugar and they came out awesome)
Just press the ball down slightly, to make it flat on top and place 5 slivered almonds in a star shape on the top.
Make the pointy end of the almond face the center, and the wide end near the edge.
It is almost like 5 don't fit on the little ball, but just squeeze them in there, because I tried 4 almonds, and sand dollars don't have 4, so it looked all wrong.
Once they bake they will spread way out, some of them spread out too far and I had to eat them instead of take pictures of them ;)
I was very pleased my almonds got just a touch of a toasted edge!
I will definitely be making these again.
Happy December Mermaids! :)
